If you’re a tourist taking pictures there’s a vary impressive Norman castle beside the statue. It is placed very high on a rough rock plinth and surrounded by railings, presumably to protect the statue. The statue is sited here to mark the king’s landing in 1690, but the statue faces away from the town, and back out to sea. The attention to detail and accuracy of the clothing is appropriate for an artwork marking a real person in a place where he stood at a key moment of history. Some parts just don’t work well in bronze, like the curls in the wig, or the plume on his hat.

The bronze statue is adorned with a wealth of detail, such as the loops of the sword handle and rows of buttons on his uniform.

Some think it is too small, but I have vague memories of the artist on TV explaining that he’d researched the real King William’s height, and the king was short. Who was the sculptor? The signs with it do not say that seems to be a gigantic omission. Would lve to go back and next time bring a few others along. The only thing I think would vastly improve the facility is some restoration of the Main office, and the lower level of the Gas rooms and maybe the creation or installation of a wildflower or a flower garden and some better picnic facilities and maybe even a mural or some artworks. My favourite part was definitely the room with all the different gas power operated apparatus that has been made over the years in Northern Ireland and Mainland Britain and Ireland, including the gas cookers, gas irons, lights and much more. But to be fair some of it has been left to remain as it was when it finally closed in 1987 to show the wear and the tear of what went into the work at the Gasworks.

This mainly Victorian era Gasworks Museum is full of many hidden treasures from the 19th and early to mid-20th century and some serious dedication into the reconditioning and reinstatement of some of this facilities industrial features, such the coal fed retorts, the pumping room and wash rooms. This little hidden gem is a truely remarkable piece of Northern Ireland's Industrial Heritage.
